Best anti-fatigue mats for commercial kitchens

A commercial kitchen mat has to drain, resist grease and cushion feet through a long service. The Safewalk Mat is our most popular economical choice, the Comfort Flow Mat adds closed-cell nitrile comfort, and the 24/Seven interlocking mat covers whole lines. Here is how to pick.

What a kitchen mat must do

01

Drain and stay put

Water, oil and food scraps fall through holes instead of pooling on top. The Safewalk and 24/Seven holes mat are designed around drainage, and moulded bevelled edges keep the mat flat so trolleys and feet do not catch.

02

Shrug off grease

Natural rubber handles grease; nitrile rubber handles grease and oil and holds up longer. The Safewalk comes in grease-resistant natural rubber or a grease and oil proof nitrile version, and the Comfort Flow is 100 percent closed-cell nitrile.

03

Cushion a whole shift

Anti-fatigue comes from the rubber compound and thickness. The Soft n Safe uses a soft sponge rubber for staff who stand in one spot, while the 12mm Safewalk balances comfort with easy hosing down.

How to choose a commercial kitchen mat

  • Wet or dry zone? Dishwashing, cook lines and bars need holes for drainage. Prep benches and pass areas can use a solid mat, which is easier to sweep.
  • Natural rubber or nitrile? Natural rubber is grease resistant and economical. Nitrile is grease and oil proof and lasts longer in heavy frying areas. If the floor sees fryer oil daily, pay for nitrile.
  • Single mats or a continuous run? For one station buy a standard size such as 910mm x 1520mm. For a whole line use interlocking 900mm x 900mm tiles with ramp edges, or a tubular PVC roll cut to the length you need.
  • Cleaning routine. Every mat here can be hosed down. Lighter mats such as the Comfort Flow are easier for staff to lift at close, heavier mats such as the Honeycomb drainage mat stay put but take two people.
  • Edges and trip risk. Choose moulded bevelled edges, and add yellow safety ramps on interlocking tiles where trolleys cross.
  • Food safety. Tubular PVC runs are made from non-toxic food grade PVC and suit antibacterial sanitising sprays.

Sizing and layout tips

Measure the working length of each station rather than the room. A 910mm wide mat suits most cook lines; dish areas often need a longer 2950mm run or two interlocking tiles. Leave a gap at floor drains so the mat does not cover them. For a bar, a 600mm x 900mm Safewalk per bartender position is the usual starting point.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best anti-fatigue mat for a commercial kitchen?

For most kitchens the Safewalk Mat is the best value: a 12mm grease-resistant rubber mat with drainage holes and moulded bevelled edges. If staff stand at one station for long shifts, step up to the Soft n Safe or Comfort Flow for more cushioning, and use interlocking 24/Seven tiles to cover a whole line.

Do commercial kitchen mats need holes?

In wet zones, yes. Drainage holes let water and oil fall through so the surface stays grippy and the mat dries fast after hosing. In dry prep areas a solid anti-fatigue mat is easier to sweep.

Are your kitchen mats grease resistant?

Yes. The black Safewalk is grease-resistant natural rubber, the terracotta Safewalk Premium and the Comfort Flow are nitrile rubber, which is grease and oil proof. The Safety Grip Tubular roll is chemical, oil and flame resistant food grade PVC.

How do I clean a commercial kitchen mat?

Lift the mat at close, hose it down, and let it dry. Interlocking tiles can be hosed in place. Avoid leaving mats soaking in degreaser overnight; a daily hose and weekly scrub keeps them hygienic.

Can you supply kitchen matting for a whole venue?

Yes. We deliver Australia-wide and manage professional installation end to end, including after-hours fit-outs.
