Discover the Natural Charm and Practicality of Coir Mats: A Guide to Eco-Friendly Flooring Solutions

What is a Coir Doormat?

Derived from coconut, Coir is indeed a versatile material with various applications beyond composting. Its durability, antibacterial properties, and natural texture make it an excellent choice for producing doormat bristles. Plus, it's sustainability as a byproduct of coconut harvesting adds to its appeal as an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials.

The ability to weave coconut coir fibers in different ways allows for customisation in creating an amazing surface to clean shoes. This versatility makes it a popular choice for environmentally-conscious consumers seeking sustainable and effective cleaning solutions.

The Benefits and Key Features of our Coir Doormats.

  1. Our Coir Mats have minimal shedding and bound with natural latex for added strength.
  2. Our durable Coir Doormats are effective at removing dirt, mud and moisture from footwear, and will help to keep your entrance clean and floors protected.
  3. Optional Embossed Print - Our Coir Mats can be professionally printed using an extremely durable embossed technique that gives a unique richly textured, raised felt-like finish, which is fade resistant.

How to clean a Coir Doormat.

Just give your doormat a good shake or vacuum to remove dirt and debris, and use a stiff brush to scrape off any mud. While you may notice some shedding at first, it will reduce over time. Coir Mats are naturally resistant to stains, rot, and mildew, but it's best to avoid exposing them to frequent or direct rain. Excessive moisture can cause the natural colour of the fibers to change due to the tannins they contain.

Can Coir Doormats be used outside?

Because our Coir Mats have a bound backing made from PVC (Natural Latex and Jute), it is not recommended to be used outside where it can easily get wet. The Coir Mats will also darken naturally overtime when exposed to sunlight and similar when wet, the colour and shape will distort from its original colour, quality and shape. It is highly recommended to leave these mats under a dry area such as an overhang to protect it from the elements.
