Showground Flooring for Safe Livestock Events
The Melbourne Royal needed a manageable, cost-effective way to provide their livestock exhibitors with a slip-resistant, comfortable surface while showcasing their prized animals.
The area to cover measured 26m by 36m. Since the space is only used occasionally, handling and storage were major considerations for the committee.
PROJECT NEED:
Working with livestock brings unique challenges. Mats are needed to protect animals’ ligaments and skin from slipping or tripping. It needed to withstand the impact of metal horseshoes and provide a stable surface that allowed animals to perform confidently. They also needed to be safe for small and large animals alike, while ensuring handlers could manage them effectively over long periods.

OUR SOLUTION:
The Mat Group recommended Rubber Stable Mats (1m x 2m). Their manageable size made them easy to stack, store and transport with a forklift. Even sizing ensured a consistent layout, while the bark-surface texture provided grip for both animals and handlers, even when wet.
Drainage channels underneath allowed liquids and solids to move away from the surface, keeping it clean and safe throughout the day. The mats created a level, resilient surface so animals and handlers could perform at their best.

THE IMPACT:
The installation delivered a reliable, slip resistant surface that protected animals, improved comfort and gave handlers confidence during events. The mats were easy to store, transport and lay. This made setup for occasional events straightforward and efficient.
By combining durability, safety and practicality, the Rubber Stable Mats ensured animals could showcase their best qualities in an open environment at the Melbourne Showgrounds.
